If you have a major other than Biology, you may earn a minor in Biological Sciences by: 

  • Completing 20-24 credits in Biology and Chemistry
    • BIO203/203L, BIO204/204L, and four additional BIO electives at the 300-level or above
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits may be transferred from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of a C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

You may earn a minor in Chemistry by:

  • Completing 23 credits in chemistry
    • CHM 151/151L, CHM 152/152L, CHM203/203L, CHM 204/204L, CHM 301/301L, and CHM 302
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits may be transferred from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of a C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

If you have a GMercyU major other than Computer Information Science (CIS), you may earn a minor in CIS by:

  • Completing 18 credits in CIS
    • CIS 104 or CIS 116, CIS 114, CIS 215, CIS 321, one additional CIS course at the 100-level or higher, and one additional CIS course at the 200-level or higher
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

Students in any field of study can benefit from training in interpersonal communication and micro-counseling helping skills, which you can apply to interactions with professional peers and populations served in the workplace. Whether working with individuals or groups in education, healthcare, or business environments, your advanced ability to effectively communicate, actively listen, and intentionally respond in professional roles and/or in community leadership will help you stand out.

You can even choose a concentration within this minor — Child and Family, Mental Health, and Special Populations — or, take courses across concentrations.

You may earn a minor in Counseling and Interpersonal Relations by:

  • Completing 9 credits in Psychology and Sociology
    • PSY 200, SWK 202 or PSY 202 (Nursing only); and PSY 212 and PSY 321
  • Three additional courses may be chosen from the following specializations to complete the minor:
    • Concentration in Mental Health: PSY/SWK 206, PSY 210, PSY 304
    • Concentration in Child and Family: PSY 221, PSY 222, SWK 241
    • Concentration in Special Populations: PSY 300, PSY 437, SWK 203, CRJ 205
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits may be transferred from another college or university; PSY 212 and PSY 321 may not be transferred from another program.
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required courses; PSY 100 is prerequisite for this minor
  • Earning a minimum grade of a C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

If you have a GMercyU major other than Criminal Justice, you may earn a minor in Criminal Justice by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • CRJ 102, CRJ 215, CRJ 216, and three CRJ electives
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

Develop the skills you need to compete in a data-driven world. You'll learn to write code that can manipulate data, perform statistical analyses, and create visualizations. You'll also explore the ethical considerations and ramifications related to data collection, privacy, and security. 

If you have a GMercyU major other than CIS, you may earn a minor in Data Analytics by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • CIS 115, CIS 116, CIS 215, CIS 312, CIS 401 and PSY 111
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

You may earn a minor in Digital Communications by: 

  • Completing these 6 courses (18 credits):
    • COMD 115, COMD 201, COMD 301, COMD 302, COMD 310, COMD 304
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits may be transferred from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of a C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

Students may earn a minor in Health Care Administration by:

  • Completing 6 courses (18 credits)
    • BUS 101, ECN 103, HA 301, HA 302, HA 401, HA 402
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C in each course; C- grades are not acceptable

If you have a GMercyU major other than History, you can earn a minor in History by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • HIS 107, HIS 109, HIS 131, HIS 132, and two history elective courses
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C in each course; C- grades are not acceptable

You may earn a minor in Mathematics by:

  • Completing 20 credits in Mathematics
    • MTH 245, MTH 246
    • 12 credits of electives selected from: MTH 231, MTH 234, MTH 235, MTH 301, MTH 302, MTH 303, MTH 304, MTH 305, MTH 401, MTH 407 or MTH 437
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

You may earn a minor in Microbiology by:

  • Completing 19 credits
    • BIO 305/305L, BIO 311, BIO 307, BIO 313, BIO 414, BIO 421 or BIO 440
    • BIO 305/305L must be taken together
    • Internship or research must be in microbiology research.
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

You may minor in Music by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • MUS 100, MUS 104, MUS 107, MUS 203, MUS 299
    • If 3 credits (instead of 6) in MUS 100, SEM 214 is required
  • Transferring a maximum of six from another college or university
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

If you have a GMercyU major other than Philosophy, you may earn a minor in Philosophy by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • PHL 201, PHL 240, PHL 313, and three philosophy electives
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

If you have a GMercyU major other than Psychology, you may earn a minor in Psychology by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • PSY 100, PSY 111, and four psychology electives
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

If you have a GMercyU major other than Public Health, you may earn a minor in Public Health by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • PUB-100 Intro to Public Health
    • PUB-200 Health Behavior and Health Education
    • PUB-310 Intro to Epidemiology
    • 3 additional public health courses
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required and elective courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

You may earn a minor in Religious Studies by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • RS 2000, RS111, RS231, RS105 or RS120, RS241 or RS256, and RS115 or RS160
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable
 

If you have a GMercyU major other than Special Education, you may earn a minor in Special Education by:

  • Completing 18 credits
    • Four 200, 300, or 400 level courses in Special Education
    • SEM 361 and EDU 316
  • Transferring a maximum of six credits from another college or university
  • Completing all prerequisites for the required courses
  • Earning a minimum grade of C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable
